Ten bus drivers showed up their skills at the driving safety training

The family business »Bohr-Busreisen und Touristik« organizes once a year a driving safety training for coach drivers. One day it was time to practise the emergency.

Wüschheim (jev). Right on time at 8.30 am, the ten bus drivers of "Bohr" set off on the Hunsrück driving safety system. Norbert Weber, trainer of professional drivers at »Bohr«, explained the daily routine: »First, the drivers do theoretical exercises on driving physics, driving behavior and passenger behavior. Then it continues with the practical matters. "

The driving safety training takes place once a year in addition to the normal training of long-distance and coach drivers. For the ten participants it was the first training since the beginning of their apprenticeship. The bus brand "Neoplan" and the employers' liability insurance association support the campaign. Michael Schellenberg of the traffic academy was responsible for the practical part of the day. First, it was about simulating an evasive maneuver.

»Imagine driving on a wet road and suddenly someone opens its car door. That means you have to steer first to the left and then to the right and during doing that you have to slow down«, Schellenberg explained the right procedure. The purpose of this exercise was to find out how the vehicle behaves in different weather conditions and how the driver can physically adjust to it. So sitting properly is extremely important for the health of the driver. During the practice trips Schellenberger remained in contact with the bus drivers over the radio and was thus able to give direct instructions and point out possible problems. »Take your time. The strenght is to be found in serenity«, so his final advice. Weber was very pleased with the day: »They did very well for the fact that they did it all for the first time.»
