Planning a Class Trip by Bus: Tips for Teachers

A class trip is the highlight of the school year for many students – and involves some organization for teachers. Those traveling by bus have it easier: the whole class travels together, the luggage is stowed away, and the journey begins right at the school. This article shows what to consider when planning, which bus fits which group size, and how to get a quote.

Why take the bus on a class trip?

The coach is the most practical solution for school trips: The class stays together, departure and return can be directly from the school, and stopovers can be planned flexibly. Unlike with trains or flights, there is no need to change with many students and luggage. For teachers, this means less stress and more control over the process.

Benefits for Class Trips

Class Stays Together

Joint arrival and departure without transfers and without lost students.

Directly from School

Departure and return at the schoolyard – without traveling to the train station.

Flexible Program

Layovers and excursions can be planned individually.

Lots of Luggage, No Problem

Suitcases, sports equipment, and materials travel in the luggage compartment.

Calculable Costs

A fixed price for the group instead of many individual tickets.

Safety First

On school trips, safety is the top priority. BOHR relies on modern buses equipped with seat belts and professional, licensed drivers. Additionally, the legally regulated driving and rest times ensure driving safety: A driver may drive a maximum of 4.5 hours in a row and must take at least a 45-minute break afterward. For longer trips, this is planned accordingly.

What does a bus for the class trip cost?

The costs depend on distance, duration, and bus size. As a guideline: coaches are rented from about 4–7 € per kilometer, smaller buses from around 3–5 € per kilometer. The better the bus is filled, the cheaper it will be per student. It is best to get a specific quote with destination, dates, and number of participants.
