Surprise Trip: How a Journey into the Blue Works

A surprise trip is an organized journey where the destination is not revealed in advance. Colloquially, it is also called a trip into the blue. You book the date, duration, hotel category, and services. The destination remains open until the trip. BOHR offers surprise trips as bus trips and as flights: for the season opening in spring, during Advent, and over New Year's Eve.

What is a trip into the blue?

"Going into the blue" means setting off without a fixed destination. In an organized trip into the blue, there is of course a destination, but the travelers do not know it. The organizer plans the route, hotel, and excursions, and you let yourself be surprised.

The appeal lies in the fact that you don't have to prepare anything and discover places that you might never have chosen yourself.

What is known in advance, what remains secret?

On the travel pages of BOHR, all secret information is replaced with "..." Everything else is as specific as with any other trip.

Known in advance:

  • Travel date and duration
  • Means of transport: coach or flight with bus transfer
  • Hotel category, for example, 3, 4, or 5 stars
  • Meals, such as breakfast or half board
  • Type of program points, such as city tours, excursions with a guide, or wine tastings
  • For some flights, the departure airport

Secret:

  • Destination and visited places
  • Name of the hotel
  • Names of attractions

There are still small hints. The season opening carries the subtitle "Gothic and Garden Splendor." The flight trip in March promises "Sea, Culture, and Joy of Life."

Tips for a Trip into the Unknown

  • Pack flexibly, for example, with comfortable shoes for city tours and a jacket for changing weather.
  • For flights, bring a valid ID. If in doubt, ask BOHR which document you need.
  • Book early. Seats on buses and planes are limited.
