Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival in Büsum

Departure in the morning and drive to Büsum. Here you will be warmly welcomed at the 4-star nordica Hotel Friesenhof.

Day 2 | Free Time

You can spend today according to your own ideas. Green dikes, untouched landscapes, bustling activity at the harbor, strolling in the shopping street, or taking a walk and enjoying the sun on the dike – vacation in Büsum means vacation for everyone.

Day 3 | Local Tour – Free Time

Breakfast followed by a small local tour with a Büsum guest guide. Over dikes and quiet streets, past the sea and harbor, you will visit charming spots in Büsum, whose history is told in an exciting and humorous way. The rest of the day is at your leisure in Büsum.

Day 4 | Cabbage, Storm Surge, and North Frisia

After breakfast, you will head to Wesselburen to the Kohlosseum in the former sugar factory. It houses not only a small museum on cabbage cultivation but also a cabbage workshop and a shop with specialties related to cabbage. Afterwards, you will continue to the Eidersperrwerk, the largest coastal protection structure in Germany. A short walk on the dam allows you to experience the size and ingenuity of this engineering masterpiece. Or take a look at the lively tern colony at the Eidersperrwerk. Continue to Tönning with its picturesque harbor, which invites you for a walk or a coffee break. In Friedrichstadt, the "Little Amsterdam," you will discover the historic town shaped by Dutch architecture with gabled houses and canals. On the way back to the hotel, there will be a short stop at the Gender Cemetery in Lunden, a special testament to Dithmarschen's history.

Day 5 | Hallig Hooge

Today you will reach Schlüttsiel by bus. From here, you will take a Hallig ship through the shallow waters of the Wadden Sea, past the seal banks, the charming Halligen, and their lonely farms to Hallig Hooge. Once on the island, you can explore it individually during a small walk. Perhaps you will also visit the experience center "Mensch & Watt" and experience the diverse relationship between humans and nature in the Halligen biosphere and the national park.

(Excursion dependent on tide times, changes to the day and/or program may be possible.)

Day 6 | Watching Big Ships

Together with an experienced tour guide, your excursion will take you to Speicherkoog, the youngest koog in Dithmarschen. The national park was established as the first national park in Germany. Sea buckthorn, salt meadows, and a large variety of birds offer beauty to the eye and peace to the soul. After Marne, you will continue to Brunsbüttel. The Nord-Ostsee Canal, the most navigated waterway in the world, impresses particularly in Brunsbüttel with its large lock facilities. Here, the giants of the seas are within reach, and the view of the Elbe, lock, and canal is impressive. In the afternoon, you will make a stop in Meldorf with its impressive and far-visible cathedral. Stroll through the small streets of the Citta-Slow town and stop by one of the small cafés in the town.
