Travel Features
Travel Itinerary
1st Day | Arrival in the Livorno Area (approx. 1,000 km)
Departure in the early morning and drive towards Tuscany. In the Livorno area, you will be warmly welcomed in a good mid-range hotel for an overnight stay.
2nd Day | Day Ferry Livorno – Bastia (approx. 30 km)
You board the ferry in the port of Livorno and in four hours you will reach Corsica. At the port, your local tour guide for the next 7 days will greet you, and together you will drive to the hotel in Bastia Borgo.
3rd Day | Balagne – Calvi (approx. 235 km)
The Balagne is one of the most beautiful regions of Corsica. You will drive along the coastal road through Ile Rousse and Algajola to Calvi. In the hinterland of Balagne, you will experience the "Old Villages". Along the way, you will also find an old olive mill, Calenzana – where the famous hiking trail GR20 begins, and the village of Pigna, where many artists work and live. The journey continues to Sant' Antonino, the "Eagle's Nest", located 447 meters high. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Isola in Bastia Borgo.
4th Day | Bastia – Ajaccio (approx. 140 km)
Along the coast, through the Désert des Agreates, you will drive towards Corte, the secret capital of Corsica. Pasquale Paoli invites you to stroll through the narrow streets of the Corsican university town. Even today, the city bears traces of the Corsican freedom struggle of the 18th century. You will continue along the railway line that crosses the island until Ajaccio appears in a bay before you. Check into your rooms and dinner at the hotel.
5th Day | Calanche (approx. 170 km)
Today you will discover a highlight of Corsica: the red granite rocks north of Ajaccio. Just past Piana, you will experience the play of shapes and colors, the unique chaos of interlocked and towering rock masses. In Porto, you have the opportunity to discover a unique nature reserve in Europe, the Scandola Nature Reserve, by boat (optional approx. €38 per person). The Calanches and the Scandola Nature Park have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The return to the hotel in Ajaccio goes through the Spelunca Gorge and over Evisa.
6th Day | Ajaccio – Free Time
After breakfast, you will take a city tour of Ajaccio. Generous boulevards, palm-lined squares, the Fesch Palace, and the ever-present traces of Napoleon shape the cityscape. The afternoon is at your leisure.
7th Day | Ajaccio – Bonifacio (approx. 170 km)
Today you will leave Ajaccio and drive south past Sartène, allegedly "the most Corsican of all Corsican towns". A magnificent sight awaits you at the southernmost tip of the island: the old port town of Bonifacio, boldly built high above the sea on a rock and surrounded by a massive wall. In Porto Vecchio, check into your hotel and dinner at a nearby restaurant.
8th Day | Porto Vecchio – Bastia (approx. 190 km)
Today you will drive over Ospedal into the Bavella Mountains. In the afternoon, you will continue to Solenzara, and upon arrival in Bastia, it will be time to say goodbye. The night ferry departs towards the mainland.
9th Day | Return Journey (approx. 900 km)
