Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival – Freiburg – Basel

Departure in the morning and drive first to Freiburg, the city of streams. Stop for lunch and a city stroll. Afterwards, continue to Basel. During the city tour, you will explore the picturesque alleys of the historic old town, see charming squares, and the most interesting sights such as the marketplace with the cathedral and much more. Then check into the centrally located hotel and have dinner.

Day 2 | Basel Carnival

Today is all about the Basel Carnival. In total darkness, the Basel Carnival begins at 4:00 AM with the “Morgenstraich”. In a sea of lights from hand-painted lanterns, the “Cliquen”, thousands of drummers and pipers, start their first parade. The Basel Carnival is a very special spectacle. With its original instruments, unique costumes, and artistic performances, it is part of the intangible UNESCO World Heritage. Around 1:30 PM, the grand parade (Cortège) starts, featuring not only the “Cliquen” but also the Guggen musicians, as well as other groups like floats and individual masks.

Day 3 | Strasbourg – Return Journey

After a leisurely breakfast, you will leave Basel in the morning and drive through Alsace to Strasbourg. Stop for a city stroll and lunch. With surely many new impressions from the Basel Carnival, you will begin your return journey.
