On the gently rippling surface of Lake Constance, the glowing red shimmering reflection of the setting evening sun dances on the horizon, a lukewarm summer breeze caresses the skin, the scent of a Mediterranean night and grand opera fills the air: Welcome to the Bregenz Festival. For years, the Bregenz Festival has undoubtedly been one of the highlights of the European festival summer. The Bregenz lake stage will transform in the summer of 2026 into a place full of passion, drama, and unforgettable melodies: For the first time in the history of the Bregenz Festival, Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece "La Traviata" will be staged as a performance on the lake. Under the artistic direction of Lilli Paasikivi and directed by Damiano Michieletto, Violetta's tragic love story unfolds against the backdrop of Lake Constance.

Day 1 | Arrival Ulm – Dornbirn

Departure in the morning to Ulm. The former imperial city has many historical sights, foremost the world-famous Gothic Ulm Minster, with the tallest church tower in the world. You have free time to wander through the city. After the lunch break, you will continue to Dornbirn, where you will be warmly welcomed at the hotel.

Day 2 | Bregenz – Performance Visit

“La Traviata”

In the late morning, you will travel to Bregenz. Discover the secrets of the Bregenz Festival and take a look behind the scenes. During a guided tour, you will be taken on an exciting journey into the inner workings of the theater. You will have the opportunity to get to know the largest lake stage in the world and the festival hall. Learn interesting facts about the history and development of the Bregenz Festival. Afterwards, you will have the chance for your own explorations in Bregenz. In the late afternoon, our bus will take you back to the hotel. After dinner, transfer to the lake stage in Bregenz and attend the performance of “La Traviata” (start around 9:00 PM; duration: approx. 2 hours; no intermission). As the centerpiece of every glamorous party, the Parisian courtesan Violetta Valéry cleverly masks her deadly illness. Weakness means loneliness, and nothing frightens Violetta more. Only with the young Alfredo does she learn true love and security, but his family demands the separation of the mismatched couple. An unforgettable evening of opera full of passion, drama, and great emotions awaits you. After the performance, you will return to your hotel.

Day 3 | Constance and Mainau Island

Today, accompanied by an experienced tour guide, you will travel along the Swiss shores of Lake Constance to Constance. The largest city on Lake Constance impresses with art, culture, enjoyment, and water. Let yourself be enchanted by the picturesque old town with its winding alleys and magnificent minster, and enjoy the international flair. Afterwards, you will continue to Mainau Island. Under the patronage of the Swedish royal family, to which the estate has belonged since 1928, the island has become a plant fairy tale. An attraction is the butterfly house with exotic species from around the world. In the late afternoon, you will begin your return journey to the hotel.

Day 4 | Lindau – Return Journey

The last point of interest is the beautiful town of Lindau, the “Pearl of Lake Constance.” You will get to know the historic island town best during a guided city tour. Visit winding alleys and admire magnificent mansions with their frescoes. After an individual lunch break, you will begin your return journey. Arrival in the early evening. A beautiful and eventful trip comes to an end.
