Itinerary

Day 1 | Münster – Kick-off in the Münsterland

Departure in the morning and travel to the Münsterland. To get in the mood for the trip, you will discover the most beautiful sides of Münster during a city tour. Afterwards, there will be some free time before you continue to the hotel. Check-in and dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 | Baumberge & Water Castles

The bike tour leads through the Baumberge to Haus Stapel, an impressive water castle and one of the largest manors in Westphalia. During a photo stop, you will see the estate from the outside. Then you will cycle to Burg Hülshoff, the birthplace of the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. During a guided tour, you will explore the park and surroundings of the water castle. At the café-restaurant DROSTE 1797, there will be an opportunity for a break. Next, you will head to the sandstone museum in Havixbeck (free admission). Passing Haus Havixbeck, you will reach the Longinusturm, the highest elevation of the Baumberge. Those who wish can climb the tower (approx. €3 per person) and enjoy the view. There will be an opportunity to stop at Café 1897 before you cycle back to the hotel.

Bike route: approx. 48 km (easy, approx. 240 m elevation gain)

Day 3 | Through the Western Münsterland

The bike trip first leads to Schloss Darfeld, which you will get to know from the outside during a photo stop. Next, you will head to the pilgrimage site Eggerode with its historic church and to the historic Stiftsdorf Asbeck. Here, you will visit the old cloister of the former monastery and see the dormitory from the outside. Cycling through Legden, you will reach the Dahliengarten, which you will explore during a guided tour. After a break, you will continue via Holtwick to the “Holtwicker Ei,” a boulder weighing around 30 tons and a landmark of the area. The route leads past Schloss Varlar back to the hotel via the RadBahn Münsterland.

Bike route: approx. 52 km (easy, approx. 250 m elevation gain)

Day 4 | Wooden Shoes, Stiftsdorf, and Billerbeck

Today's stage first leads to Holthausen. In the village center, a rest area with a village shop invites you to take a break. You will continue to Altenberge. During a tour of the historic building ensemble, you will visit the wooden shoe museum and learn interesting facts about traditional manufacturing. Afterwards, a cozy coffee break with coffee and cake awaits you at the historic Heimathues Kittken. Now you will cycle to the Stiftsdorf Hohenholte and through the nature reserve Berkelaue. In Billerbeck, you will be greeted by the Kolvenburg and a small sightseeing tour before cycling back to the hotel.

Bike route: approx. 45 km (easy, approx. 230 m elevation gain)

Day 5 | Schloss Westerwinkel - Return Journey

To conclude the trip, you will discover Schloss Westerwinkel, the baroque castle in the Münsterland. The four-winged complex was built in the mid-17th century in an English garden. After the castle tour, you will begin your journey home.
