Travel Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrival – Fareham (approx. 760 km)
Drive to Calais for the ferry crossing to Dover. After disembarking, you will drive to Fareham to your hotel.
Day 2 | Fareham – Newquay (approx. 340 km)
After a typical English breakfast, your journey continues westward with a local tour guide, reaching Exeter, the capital of Devonshire, late in the morning. Depending on the schedule, you will pass through Dartmoor National Park. In the evening, you will check into your hotel for the next three nights in Newquay.
Day 3 | Cornwall (approx. 170 km)
Today you will experience the southwest of England just as the Pilcher films promise! First, you will reach Land’s End, where the Atlantic Ocean crashes against the cliffs with all its might. Take your time and enjoy the impressive landscape on a walk. Then, continue to Penzance – the place offers a beautiful view of St. Michael’s Mount and the splendid sandy beach. The fishing village “Porthkerries,” the setting for many Pilcher novels, is actually St. Ives and exudes English-Mediterranean charm at every turn. Afterward, you will drive back along the coast to your hotel.
Day 4 | Lanhydrock House & Garden – Lost Gardens of Heligan (approx. 80 km)
Nearby lies one of the most beautiful historic country houses in Cornwall: nestled in a wooded park landscape is the impressive estate of Lanhydrock House & Garden. The magnificent magnolias and rhododendrons of the beautifully landscaped gardens enchant every visitor. Explore the Victorian interiors of the manor house, which illustrate the strict separation between communal and private spaces as well as master and servant areas. Later, you will continue past St. Austell to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Due to the subtropical, frost-free climate even in winter, here grow and thrive plants atypical for England, such as rhododendrons, the largest collection of tree ferns, pineapple plants, and much more. Impressed by the plant world, you will return to your hotel.
Day 5 | Tintagel Castle – Bristol (approx. 300 km)
You will leave Cornwall and head to Tintagel. Tintagel Castle will take you back to the time of King Arthur. Via Stratton, the old market settlement, you will reach Clovelly. The picture-book village of Clovelly, which nestles picturesque into the cliffs of Devon's north coast, is famous for being particularly beautiful. Stroll through the cobbled streets and admire the pretty flower-adorned cottages. You will then proceed via Taunton to Bristol. (Note: For both program points, you should be in good physical condition to manage a 30-minute walk (partly steep!).) Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Bristol.
Day 6 | Bath – Slough (approx. 470 km)
Strengthened by breakfast, you will continue to Bath, the most famous spa town in Great Britain. Here, it’s all about culture, and UNESCO has included the entire city of Bath in the World Heritage list. The magnificent Regency style shapes the cityscape, as does the almost golden glow of the buildings made from honey-colored sandstone. In the afternoon, you will visit the stone circle of Stonehenge, built around 3000 BC, one of the most significant prehistoric monuments on Earth. You will spend your last night of this unforgettable journey in Slough.
Day 7 | Return Journey (approx. 800 km)
Bye, bye, I’ll come back, lovely Cornwall! Today you will say goodbye to the British Isles. Your bus will drive to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais and then roll towards home.
