Cycling tour through the Romantic Altmühltal

With the wind in your hair and kissed by the sun, the Altmühltal Nature Park delights you with a charming holiday landscape in the heart of Bavaria. Day 1 | Schwarzachtal – Titting-Emsing

Departure in the morning and travel by modern coach to Titting-Emsing to our hotel. Once the bicycles are ready, we start a joint exploration tour, with an opportunity for lunch, through the Anlauertal. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 | Brombachsee – Gunzenhausen –

Altmühlsee

After breakfast, we first take the bus to the eastern shore of Brombachsee. Back in the saddle, you cycle along the dam and the lakeside bike path to the southern shore, passing beautiful swimming beaches and having the option to stop at a beach café. After that, you ride over the Altmühlleiten before reaching Gunzenhausen, where you have the opportunity for a lunch break in the old town area. Well-nourished, you cycle around Altmühlsee, visit a protected bird island, and return to the bus in the late afternoon, which takes you back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 | Eichstätt – Altmühltal – Beilngries

You will travel by bus to Eichstätt. Here you have the opportunity for a small, individual visit to the cathedral and the city before starting your cycling tour on the Altmühl bike path towards Kelheim. Passing Walting and Gungolding with a view of the ruins of Arnsberg, you head to Kipfenberg, the geographical center of Bavaria. The Altmühl bike path then continues through nature-connected river landscapes to Beilngries. For dinner, you return to your hotel.

Day 4 | Kelheim – Danube Breakthrough

Look forward to another exciting cycling tour already at breakfast. From Dietfurt, you continue the Altmühl cycling tour and first reach Riedenburg. Passing Burg Prunn and Burg Randeck, there is another highlight on the cycling route – the wooden suspension bridge at Essing. This unusual suspension bridge spans the Main-Danube Canal and is one of the longest wooden bridges in Europe. Upon arrival in Kelheim, it’s time to set sail for a boat trip through the Danube Breakthrough to the Weltenburg Monastery. In the monastery courtyard, you can enjoy the monastery beer in a cheerful gathering before taking the bus back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 | Eichstätt – Pappenheim – Return Journey

Today, unfortunately, it’s time to say goodbye to the Altmühltal. In Eichstätt, you will complete your last cycling stage. Below Willibaldsburg, you cycle past Kloster Marienstein, arrive in Dollnstein, and reach Pappenheim. Here you have the opportunity for a lunch break. Afterwards, you will begin your journey home with many beautiful impressions.

The family-run Hotel Dirsch has everything to make your stay more enjoyable. The wellness area of approximately 1,500 m² features a sauna and steam bath landscape, swimming pool, and fitness room. The rooms are equipped with shower, toilet, radio, TV, seating area, and telephone. In the morning, you will be greeted with a traditional Altmühltaler breakfast buffet, and in the evening you can look forward to a rich delicacy menu in the restaurant.
