Opatija
Croatia's oldest seaside resort
Already in the 19th century, Opatija became a fashionable spa due to its favorable location, pleasant climate, and rich history. Enjoy the incomparable charm – Opatija invites you to visit at any time of the year.
Travel Features
Itinerary
Day 1 | Overnight Stay
Departure in the morning and drive towards the Salzburg region. You will be warmly welcomed at a good mid-range hotel for your overnight stay.
Day 2 | Arrival in Opatija
After breakfast, you will continue your journey to Opatija. With a warm “Dobar dan” and a welcome drink, you will be greeted at the 3-star Hotel Kristal.
Day 3 | Opatija and Krk Island
In the morning, your tour guide will first show you the glamorous seaside resort of Opatija, and you can be transported back to the K&K era. The lovingly restored hotel complexes, most of which were built in the Art Nouveau style during the last century, the beautiful waterfront promenade, and the well-kept parks are just a few highlights you will see in Opatija. Afterwards, you will discover the beauty of the largest island in the Adriatic – Krk Island. The mild Mediterranean climate, the favorable geographical location, and the diversity of nature and culture have led to the name “golden island” since ancient times. You will drive through the interior of the island directly to the main town of Krk. Take a stroll through the old town of Krk and walk through 3,000 years of history.
Day 4 | Plitvice Lakes
After breakfast, you will explore the legendary landscape around the Plitvice Lakes. The 16 cascading lakes are world-famous, and the park is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia. The Plitvice Lakes also play a significant role in the famous Karl May film “The Treasure of Silver Lake,” which was filmed at the lakes in the 1960s. In 1979, this unique natural phenomenon was designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. Discover the breathtaking beauty of the park with its clear, emerald-green waters and the fantastically shaped limestone deposits (sturdy footwear required).
Day 5 | Istria Tour
Poreč, the Lim Fjord, and Rovinj are the destinations for today’s excursion. In the over 2,000-year-old city of Poreč, many small old town alleys remind of its Roman past. The jewel of Poreč is the Euphrasius Basilica from the 6th century, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1997. To conclude today’s excursion, you will get to know the so-called “Croatian Venice” – the city of Rovinj. The old town built on a peninsula, with its winding alleys and romantic Gothic buildings, radiates a typical Mediterranean flair and invites you to explore. The old stairways, covered passages, palaces adorned with the Lion of St. Mark, and the many cafés give the city its own charm. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6 | Return Journey
After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye, and you will embark on your journey home with many beautiful impressions in your luggage.
