Travel Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrival Amsterdam/Ijmuiden
(approx. 470 km)
Departure in the morning to Amsterdam/Ijmuiden. There you will board the ferry and settle into your cabin for the crossing to Newcastle. Enjoy dinner on board and relax as you prepare for the upcoming days in Scotland.
Day 2 | Newcastle – Glasgow – Irvine
(approx. 300 km)
In Newcastle, you will disembark in the morning and start your journey north, where you will soon reach the border to Scotland. In Glasgow, you will get to know the main sights of the metropolis on a city tour. Afterwards, continue to Irvine to your hotel.
Day 3 | Loch Lomond – Whisky Distillery – Fort William (approx. 200 km)
Today you will visit the famous Loch Lomond. Enjoy the beautiful landscape with its wooded shores and impressive mountains on a boat trip. Afterwards, visit a whisky distillery and gain interesting insights into the production of the Scottish “water of life.” Continue to Fort William and check in to your hotel for the next two nights.
Day 4 | West Highland Line (approx. 150 km)
Today you will experience one of the scenic highlights of the trip. You will take the train on the famous West Highland Line from Fort William to Mallaig. The route leads through an almost untouched landscape and over the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct. In Mallaig, there will be time for a stop. Afterwards, return by bus to Fort William.
Day 5 | Loch Ness – Highlands (approx. 100 km)
Today, the journey takes you to Loch Ness. Along the country’s panoramic road, you will experience the legendary, deep black lake. A particularly beautiful view can be enjoyed from Urquhart Castle. The ruins still hint at how magnificent the castle once stood proudly and majestically over Loch Ness. You will continue to your hotel in the Highlands via Inverness, the unofficial capital of the Highlands.
Day 6 | Strathspey Railway – Livingston
(approx. 280 km)
Beautiful nature and spectacular views await you on a train ride with the Strathspey Railway through the Highlands. Starting from Aviemore, the journey takes you past heather-covered moors and forests over Boat of Garten to Broomhill. In the evening, check in to your hotel for the next two nights in Livingston.
Day 7 | Edinburgh (approx. 60 km)
Today you will discover Edinburgh on a city tour. You will see famous sights such as Edinburgh Castle, the Parliament, and St. Giles Cathedral. Afterwards, you will have time to explore the charming Old Town and the elegant New Town on your own.
Day 8 | Edinburgh – Newcastle (approx. 200 km)
After breakfast, you will leave Edinburgh and travel through the picturesque landscape of the Scottish Borders towards Newcastle. On the way, you will visit a typical Scottish cattle farm. Afterwards, continue to Newcastle and check in to the ferry that will take you back to the European mainland to Amsterdam/Ijmuiden.
Day 9 | Amsterdam/Ijmuiden – Return Journey
(approx. 470 km)
After the ferry arrives in Amsterdam/Ijmuiden, you will begin your journey home.
