Spring Dream in South Tyrol

Apple blossom and royal festival in Natz

After the cold and snowy winter, the longing for spring grows. In South Tyrol, it seems to arrive earlier than elsewhere. Those who haven't experienced it can hardly believe the energy with which spring can take hold in South Tyrol: within just a few days, the buds burst open as almost summery mild winds blow from the Mediterranean region through the Eisack Valley up into the snow-covered mountains. Once the apple tree pruning is completed and all preparations for the new season are made, it won't be long before the land is filled with a wonderful fragrance, and two colors dominate the scene: red and white, as far as the eye can see! Let the South Tyrolean apple blossom chase away your spring fatigue ...

Travel Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival in South Tyrol

Departure in the morning and drive via the motorway to South Tyrol. Room allocation and dinner at Hotel Ploseblick in Natz-Schabs.

Day 2 | Dolomites Tour

Freshly strengthened, you start with an excursion into the heart of the Dolomites. An experienced tour guide will accompany you into the “Realm of the Pale Mountains.” The drive takes you through the Puster Valley to St. Lorenzen. From there, continue through the beautiful Gadertal, over the Campolongo Pass to Pordojoch, and further over the Sella Pass into the Gröden Valley, the home of the world-famous Luis Trenker. Let yourself be enchanted by the scenic beauty and the extraordinary phenomena of this unique mountain world. Return to your hotel in the evening.

Day 3 | Bolzano – Sun Plateau Ritten

After breakfast, you will drive to the South Tyrolean capital Bolzano. The city's origin and current significance are due to its central location at the confluence of the Adige and Eisack rivers. You will visit the well-known and popular Archaeological Museum, where the 5,400-year-old mummy of “Ötzi” is on display. At noon, you will take the Ritten cable car to the sunny Ritten high plateau. There you will find the most beautiful panorama of the Dolomites. The journey continues with the romantic narrow-gauge railway to Klobenstein, which is now the last of its kind in all of South Tyrol. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the Dolomites along the route. Afterwards, we invite you to a mountain farm for a rustic meal with speck, sausage, sauerkraut, and potatoes. You can drink self-produced wine with it.

Day 4 | Merano and Lake Caldaro

Drive accompanied by an experienced tour guide to the world-famous spa and grape city of Merano. The city with its medieval alleys is just waiting to be explored by you. In the afternoon, you will drive along the South Tyrolean Wine Road to Lake Caldaro. This wine road connects scenic highlights of the Adige Valley with well-known wine villages. You will visit a winery with a subsequent wine tasting.

Day 5 | Royal Festival in Natz

Enjoy the rich breakfast buffet. Afterwards, you have the opportunity to visit the Royal Festival in Natz. Between mid-April and early May, the apple high plateau is in full bloom. This wonderfully fragrant floral spectacle is celebrated with a nearly royal festival. Numerous “Royal Highnesses” are welcomed each year by the reigning Apple Queen. The list of attending product queens from Germany, Austria, and South Tyrol is long and ranges from Apple Queen to Hay Queen to Onion Queen. During the festive parade to the festival site, the queens are accompanied in their noble garments by music bands, shooting associations, fire brigades, Schuhplattler dancers, and various clubs in beautifully decorated festival floats. Culinary delights are also not to be missed. Let yourself be pampered with apple specialties and other delicacies.

Day 6 | Return Journey

Today, unfortunately, it is time to say goodbye. You say “Arrivederci” and see you again in South Tyrol and begin your journey home.
