The cycling tour takes place on the long-distance cycling route "Thuringian City Chain" and connects three of the most beautiful cities in Thuringia on this section. The tour leads from the Wartburg city of Eisenach through the residence city of Gotha to the historic cathedral city of Erfurt. This journey is all about culture and history: magnificent buildings, significant landmarks, and charming old towns line the way. With relaxed daily stages, there is plenty of time to discover the highlights along the route at a leisurely pace.

Day 1 | Arrival in Eisenach – Cycling to Gotha

Arrival in the morning in Eisenach. The world-famous Wartburg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most important historical buildings in Germany, towers over the city. During a tour of the old town with its numerous sights, you will receive information and insights. Around 2:00 PM, you will start your cycling tour. Following the course of the Hörsel, you will cycle mainly on quiet side roads through the wide Thuringian Basin. The open landscape with its fields and gentle hills conveys a sense of spaciousness and accompanies you through small, typically Thuringian towns. You will come to the well-preserved Art Nouveau complex of the "Galopprennbahn Boxberg," one of the architecturally most interesting racetracks in Germany. In the late afternoon, you will reach the former residence city of Gotha. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2 | Cycling Tour: Gotha – Erfurt

You will start with a city tour in Gotha – Friedenstein Castle, one of the largest early Baroque castle complexes in Germany, impressively shapes the cityscape. The tour through the old town leads you to the main market with the historic town hall and representative citizens' houses. After that, you will set off cycling.... Soon you will reach the village of Wechmar, which was awarded "the most beautiful village in Thuringia" in 2003. The traditional village is closely connected to the Bach family and houses the Bach family home, which offers insights into the origins of the famous musician family as a museum. The historic town center with half-timbered houses invites you for a short stroll. Shortly thereafter, the view opens up to the striking castle ensemble of the Three Gleichen with Wachsenburg, Mühlburg, and Burg Gleichen, which are among the most famous sights in the region. You will follow the course of the Gera and reach the center of the state capital Erfurt through green parks. The well-preserved old town impresses with its medieval cityscape. Numerous alleys, squares, cafés, and shops invite you to linger. The last stage of the day leads you to the hotel located in the Linderbach district. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 | Erfurt – Return Journey

After breakfast, you will experience Erfurt on a guided tour "the fascination of a historical city." Particularly noteworthy are St. Mary's Cathedral and the Severi Church at the Cathedral Square, as well as the Krämer Bridge, the longest continuously built bridge with houses in Europe. After that, there will be some time to linger before you begin your return journey.
