Itinerary
Day 1 | Christmas Market Erfurt – Arrival
Departure in the morning and drive first to Erfurt. Here you have free time and the opportunity to visit the Erfurt Christmas Market. The medieval old town around the Cathedral Square provides the ideal backdrop for a festive pre-Christmas atmosphere. Traditional crafts and Thuringian specialties can be found, as well as a huge Christmas tree adorned with candles. The entire city center is aglow with lights, Christmas melodies fill the air, and the scent of mulled wine and gingerbread wafts around. In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Dresden. Check into your hotel and enjoy dinner.
Day 2 | First Encounter – Free Time
Optional: Concert in the Frauenkirche
A city guide will meet you in the morning for a tour through the historic old town and the late Baroque complex of the Zwinger (external visit), passing by the famous Procession of Princes to the Frauenkirche on Neumarkt. Here you will attend an organ service and learn a lot about the reconstruction during the central church tour. The afternoon is entirely yours! Perhaps you will visit the Striezelmarkt. An impressive Christmas tree with lights and hundreds of bulbs, as well as a traditional Erzgebirge step pyramid, tower over the inviting market stalls. In the evening, we recommend attending the Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach in the Frauenkirche (additional cost, performance starts at 7:30 PM). Let yourself be filled with pre-Christmas joy and experience this masterpiece in the festive Dresden Frauenkirche. Individual return to the hotel.
Day 3 | City Tour – Free Time – Ballet
“The Nutcracker”
After breakfast, you will continue your city sightseeing with a city tour that first takes you to the “Green Lung” of the city, the Great Garden, past the Hygiene Museum to the Glass Factory of Volkswagen and finally into the villa districts of Blasewitz, Weißer Hirsch, and Loschwitz. There you can experience your “Blue Wonder” at the bridge of the same name before being fascinated by the three romantic Elbe castles. A detour to the Outer Neustadt to beautifully restored Gründerzeit buildings and the whimsically designed Kunsthofpassagen shows how diverse this city is. Returning through the Baroque Neustadt, you will get to know the famous Elector Augustus the Strong – unfortunately only as a golden equestrian statue at the Augustus Bridge, which offers you the most beautiful silhouette of the city when you pass – the Canalettoview. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy in Dresden. At 6:00 PM, the highlight of the trip awaits you as you see the classic of dance literature “The Nutcracker” with music by Peter I. Tchaikovsky in the Semperoper (performance duration: approx. 2 hours). The performance is a breathtaking journey into a magical world and a festive highlight during the Christmas season.
Day 4 | Return Journey
After breakfast, you will begin your journey home with many beautiful musical memories in your luggage.
