BOHR is celebrating two anniversaries – 40 years of BOHR and 25 years of BOHR Island – and warmly invites everyone to a big celebration on BOHR Island in Lautzenhausen. Admission is free on both days.
Discover the beauties on both sides of the English Channel with us. You can expect spectacular coastal landscapes and fascinating British islands. The coastal areas testify to an exciting history and cultural charm. Enjoy the 'Savoir-vivre' in France, the laughter and warmth of the locals in South England, marvel at UNESCO World Heritage sites, breathe in the healthy sea air, and experience wonderful coastal regions.
Departure in the morning and drive to the charming city of Rouen. You can expect magnificent half-timbered houses, picturesque alleys, and an imposing cathedral in a delightful old town. You will be warmly welcomed at the 4-star Mercure Rouen Centre Cathédrale (local category). Dinner will be at a restaurant near the hotel.
After breakfast, you will experience the Norman coast. Salt is in the air, seagulls are crying, and on both sides of the harbor entrance of Fécamp rise the impressive chalk cliffs of the Alabaster Coast. Fécamp is an old seaside resort, surrounded by cliffs and beach, and was a significant pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages due to its Abbey of Sainte-Trinité. A few kilometers further lies Étretat, mainly known for its impressive chalk cliffs, which rise steeply towards the sea, forming a variety of bizarre formations. Here you will understand why painters have set up their easels here throughout the ages. A scenery like no other unfolds before you. Dinner and overnight stay in Rouen.
Today your journey leads you towards Saint-Malo. On the way, you will visit the fishing village of Honfleur. The picturesque harbor invites you for an individual stroll. Let yourself be enchanted by the charm of the fishing village, its small alleys, and colorful half-timbered houses. Numerous painters came here in the 19th century, including Claude Monet, Eugène Boudin, Sisley, and Cézanne. Shortly thereafter, you will reach the fertile region of Calvados. Learn more about the history of the Norman specialty and try the drink of the same name – Calvados. In the late afternoon, you will then arrive in Saint-Malo. After this eventful day, you will check into your hotel for the next two nights. Dinner and overnight stay at the 3-star Hotel de la Cité (local category) in Saint-Malo.
This morning you will experience the famous monastery mountain Mont-Saint-Michel, the so-called “Wonder of the West.” The monastery has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and captivates people from all over the world. The visit is an absolute highlight. In the afternoon, you will explore the Breton corsair city of Saint-Malo. Imposing city walls, beautiful granite houses, and enchanting sandy beaches await you. The facades and towers rising from the fortifications give the city its unique silhouette. You will surely be thrilled! After the city tour, there will still be some time for leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
In the late morning, you will leave Saint-Malo and drive to Cherbourg, where the Brittany Ferries ferry is already waiting to take you to Portsmouth in the evening. Dinner on board the ferry. After disembarking, you will drive to your hotel for the next three nights. Overnight stay at the 4-star Leonardo Hotel in Southampton (local category).
After breakfast, you will explore the south coast. First, the drive takes you to Corfe Castle, a small village with a castle ruin beautifully located in a valley of the Purbeck Hills. Then you will drive along the breathtaking English south coast and reach Durdle Door, one of the most photographed sights on the Jurassic Coast. Durdle Door is a natural limestone arch. Every year, more than 200,000 hikers use the footpath between Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, making it the busiest route in the southwest. In Abbotsbury, there is a well-known swan reserve. It is probably the only place in the world where visitors can walk right through a colony of nesting mute swans. Return to the hotel in Southampton and dinner.
Today you will reach the Isle of Wight by ferry. Until about 600 BC, it was still connected to the mainland, and it has been its own county since 1890. This sun-drenched island, also called the “Isle of Flowers,” will captivate you. Pretty seaside resorts on the east coast, spectacular landscapes on the west coast, the chalk cliffs “The Needles,” and the sandstone cliffs shimmering in 22 colors create an exceptionally beautiful backdrop. Even Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert resided in their summer residence, Osborne House, on this enchanting island. Since the house is largely preserved in its original state, it vividly illustrates the lifestyle of the monarchs. After this eventful excursion, you will return to your hotel in Southampton. Dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, you will continue along the southern coast and reach the popular English seaside resort of Brighton. The coastal town has been considered hip and trendy since the Prince of Wales, the later George IV, spent his leisure time here in the late 18th century. Get to know the charm of Brighton during a city tour. Afterwards, you will have some free time and the opportunity to stroll through the Brighton Lanes, a maze of small alleys from the 17th century, where antique shops, boutiques, and cafés are located. A visit to the city’s main attraction – the impressive Royal Pavilion built in Indian-exotic style – is highly recommended. In the afternoon, continue your journey towards Kent. Overnight stay at the 3-star Holiday Inn Ashford North (local category) in Ashford. Dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, you will drive to Dover, where you will board the P&O Ferries ferry towards Calais. After disembarking in Calais, you will begin your journey home with many beautiful impressions in your travel luggage.
