Winter hiking enjoyment in the Fichtel Mountains

The spa town of Bischofsgrün, located in the heart of the Fichtelgebirge, is nestled between the two highest peaks, the Ochsenkopf and the Schneeberg. The Fichtelgebirge is considered one of the most famous low mountain ranges in Germany and impresses with numerous hiking trails. The routes lead to spectacular viewpoints around Bischofsgrün. You can expect a varied week, away from the hustle and bustle, in beautiful nature. What could be better than exploring and enjoying nature on foot in the clear winter air?

Day 1 | Arrival in Fichtelgebirge

In the morning, you will start your journey to Bischofsgrün. You will be welcomed at the Hotel Kaiseralm in the afternoon with a Kaiseralm cocktail and dinner.

Day 2 | Holiday Destination

After breakfast, a guided tour of the village awaits you. Bischofsgrün is the largest tourist town in the Fichtelgebirge and is also considered the most beautiful, nestled in the Ochsenkopf adventure region. A cozy town center with a church, spa house, town hall, and traditional inns invites you to stroll. The afternoon is at your leisure - how about relaxing in the hotel wellness area?

Day 3 | Bayreuth

You will take a day trip to Bayreuth via public bus. Bayreuth is known for the Richard Wagner Festival and the Margravial Opera House, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The tour guide will show you the most beautiful corners of the historic city center during the city tour. You will have time for your own explorations and shopping. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 4 | "Winter Happiness – Ochsenkopf"

You will enjoy a relaxed hike from the hotel on the "Winter Happiness" trail, a path through idyllic, wintry Fichtelgebirge forests, to the village of Fleckl. From here, you will take the cable car up the south side to Ochsenkopf (1024 m). You will be rewarded with a magnificent view and can refresh yourself in one of the dining establishments. You will take the descent back to Bischofsgrün on the north side.

Walking time: approx. 4 h ( approx. 8 km)

Day 5 | Fichtelsee

After breakfast, you will start from the hotel for a hike to Fichtelsee, a picturesque tour through dense forests. The route offers a beautiful connection between the spa town and the idyllic moor lake, including the option to use the 2.5 km lakeside path that leads through a nature reserve. Of course, there is a place to stop for refreshments. You will return by public bus. Alternatively: You can take the bus to and from and only do the lakeside hike. Difficulty level: easy,

Walking time: approx. 4 h ( approx. 7.5 – 10 km)

Day 6 | "On the Sunny Side"

Rejuvenated, you will start a hike on a section of the panoramic path on the "sunny side" of Bischofsgrün. The route offers varied views of the spa town, Ochsenkopf, and Schneeberg from different perspectives. The destination is the "Ehrenfriedhof" with an adjacent landscape garden. Especially in winter, there is a particularly peaceful, idyllic atmosphere here.

Day 7 | Free Time

You can spend today as you wish.

Day 8 | Departure

Unfortunately, it is time to say goodbye, and after breakfast, you will begin your journey home.
