Christmas & New Year's Eve in the Mostviertel

Day 1 | (22.12.2026) Arrival Mostviertel

Departure in the morning and drive to Lower Austria. In Neuhofen/Ybbs, you will be warmly welcomed at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 | (23.12.2026) Christkindlmarkt Linz

After breakfast, you will travel to Linz. During a guided tour, the city's history comes alive. Immerse yourself in the history of the townhouses and the lives of famous personalities and discover sights worth seeing. Afterwards, you have the opportunity to stroll through the Linz Christkindlmarkt. Nestled among the centuries-old baroque townhouses, charmingly designed stalls, surrounded by the impressive Christmas tree, invite you to linger. After dinner at the hotel, a Mostfeuer – caramelized spiced cider – will be lit and served with Mostviertler Kletzenbrot. Atmospheric zither music will accompany the evening.

Day 3 | (24.12.2026) “Christkindl” near Steyr – Christmas Eve

In the morning, you will travel to “Christkindl” near Steyr. The beautiful mechanical nativity scenes in the Christkindl parish courtyard will enchant you. Don't forget to have your Christmas mail stamped at the world-famous Christkindl post office and send it home with the coveted stamp motif. Continue to the over 1000-year-old town of Steyr. During a guided tour, discover the magnificent buildings and the Gothic Bummerlhaus. You will spend Christmas Eve with the Scheiblauer family according to old Mostviertel tradition, with tower trumpeters, incense, punch, and much more. Afterwards, you will be treated to a festive 5-course Christmas dinner and receive a small Christmas gift. At 10:00 PM, there is the option to attend the Christmas mass in Neuhofen/Ybbs.

Day 4 | (25.12.2026) Free Time

Indulge in a visit to the hotel's wellness area or take a short winter hike during your free time. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 5 | (26.12.2026) Mariazell – Mariazellerbahn

After breakfast, you will visit the largest Marian pilgrimage church in Austria in Mariazell. The centerpiece of the pilgrimage church is the late Romanesque statue of the Mother of God. According to legend, a monk named Magnus brought a statue of Mary here and founded a small cell (“Maria in der Zelle”), from which the name Mariazell later emerged. Afterwards, we invite you to take a ride on the Mariazellerbahn. The journey on Austria's longest narrow-gauge railway is very impressive and becomes an experience – a combination of technology, history, and stunning alpine landscape. The train ride ends in Laubenbachmühle, and you will return to the hotel by bus.

Day 6 | (27.12.2026) Vienna

Your excursion today takes you to the waltz city of Vienna. During a city tour, you will see, among other things, the famous Ringstraße with the opera house, Burgtheater, and parliament, the Belvedere Palace, and the landmark of Vienna, St. Stephen's Cathedral. The afternoon is entirely yours, and you have the opportunity to visit the most important institution in Vienna: the coffee house. Return to the hotel and dinner.

Day 7 | (28.12.2026) Mostviertel Tour

Today's tour takes you along the scenic road with a magnificent view over the Mostviertel to the Basilica of Sonntagberg. Continue to Waidhofen an der Ybbs with a short tour through the medieval town. In the afternoon, you will reach Seitenstetten and visit the Seitenstetten Abbey. The “Four-Cornered House of God,” as the monastery is commonly called, impresses with its baroque art treasures. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 8 | (29.12.2026) Abbey Melk – Krems

After breakfast, you will travel through the Wachau and visit the landmark of the Wachau, the world-famous Benedictine Abbey Melk – which towers high above the Danube. Its golden-yellow facade shines even on gray winter days and gives the landscape an almost majestic tranquility. Continue via Dürnstein to the historic town of Krems. Stroll through the 1000-year-old wine and cultural city. The old town, with its narrow alleys, small squares, and colorful facades, tells of past centuries. For dinner, you will return to your hotel.

Day 9 | (30.12.2026) Blacksmith Demonstration

Today, you can forge a lucky charm yourself, have it forged, or buy pre-made lucky charms in Hollenstein at the Treffenguthammer as part of the traditional lucky charm forging of the blacksmith round. A hearty lunch awaits you at an iron road inn. Back at the hotel, the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure to relax. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10 | (31.12.2026) Free Time – New Year's Eve

You can shape today as you wish. Perhaps with a visit to the swimming pool, steam sauna, Finnish sauna, or bio sauna? Or book one of the many massage and beauty treatments at the hotel.

Day 11 | (01.01.2027) New Year's Breakfast – Ennstal Alps

With a generous sparkling wine breakfast, marinated salmon, and lucky charms, you welcome the new year. Afterwards, you will travel via Weyer-Markt to the Enns and along it, you will drive through Altenmarkt and Großreifling to Hieflau. Through the wild-romantic Gesäuse, you will then go to the abbey town of Admont for an individual lunch break or visit the Benedictine Abbey of Admont (outside visit). Return via St. Gallen along the Enns and Weyer to Neustadt/Ybbs. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 12 | (02.01.2027) Departure

Today, unfortunately, it is time to say goodbye to the Mostviertel. With many beautiful impressions, you will begin your journey home after breakfast.
