Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrival in Sillian
Departure in the morning towards East Tyrol. In Sillian, you will be warmly welcomed at the 4-star Alpenhotel Weitlanbrunn.
Day 2 | Around the Lienz Dolomites
Explore the Lesachtal, a picturesque, unspoiled high valley. The untouched nature, terraced landscape, tranquility, and idyllic setting give the valley its distinctive character. The Lesachtal has been awarded as “Europe's most natural and environmentally friendly valley.” In Maria Luggau, you can admire the famous pilgrimage basilica. Afterwards, you will reach Lienz, the capital of East Tyrol, also known as the “Pearl of the Dolomites.” Lienz calls itself the sun city. And indeed, there are an impressive average of 2,020 hours of sunshine per year and a Mediterranean flair in the city. A little stroll through the city quickly reveals: You couldn’t describe beautiful Lienz more aptly. While wandering through the city, you will explore the medieval alleys.
Day 3 | Großglockner
Today, we go high up! You will embark on the Großglockner High Alpine Road. In front of the breathtaking mountain backdrop lies the legendary mountaineering village of Heiligenblut. Here, a true postcard idyll awaits you: The proud late Gothic church, closely nestled among the inns and mountain farms in the midst of a magnificent mountain landscape, whose silhouette is dominated by the majestic, glacier-covered pyramid of the Großglockner. Through a magnificent natural landscape, past meadows, forests, rocks, and ice, you will reach the Großglockner, the highest mountain in Austria at 3,798 m. Enjoy splendid views of numerous three-thousanders.
Day 4 | Toblach and Lake Pragser
In the morning, you will visit Toblach – also known as the “Gateway to the Dolomites.” The composer Gustav Mahler recognized how beautiful it is here, having stayed during the summer months from 1908 to 1910 and owning his own composing house. The afternoon is dedicated to the “Pearl of the Dolomite Lakes” – Lake Pragser, located in the eponymous Pragsertal. Perhaps you will enjoy a cappuccino while taking in the view of the lake.
Day 5 | Defereggental
You won’t have to look long to find the special and unique characteristics of the Defereggental. It lies in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park and is beautifully framed and surrounded by the mountains of the Defereggen range, the Rieserferner group, the Lasörling group, and the Schober group. You will hardly find a place in East Tyrol that is more authentic and genuine. The Defereggental extends with its three towns, St. Jakob, St. Veit, and Hopfgarten, up to the Staller Saddle. The road over the Staller Saddle connects the Antholz Valley in South Tyrol with the Defereggental. From the Obersee, you have a breathtaking view towards South Tyrol.
