Wine Autumn in the Wachau

Eventful days in the Danube Valley

Welcome to one of the most enchanting river valleys in Europe! Since the year 2000, the Wachau has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage region and resembles a total work of art. In the autumn months, the leaves of the vines slowly change color, allowing the wine regions in the Danube Valley to shine in the most magnificent hues. The scent of pressed grapes and ripe apples fills the air, and the sociable grape harvest season begins.

Day 2 | Melk Abbey – Danube Cruise –
Wine Tasting

Excursion to Melk Abbey – the largest abbey in Lower Austria. The world-famous abbey is considered an icon of Baroque architecture and has been continuously inhabited by Benedictine monks to this day. You will find excitingly designed museum rooms that present the history and present of the monastery, as well as the high Baroque abbey church with precious frescoes and paintings. Below the world-famous Benedictine Abbey lies another cultural-historical gem: the UNESCO World Heritage city of Melk. Here you will have free time. In the afternoon, it’s time to “cast off” and you will take a boat trip through the UNESCO World Heritage Wachau to Spitz. You can end the day comfortably with a professionally guided wine tasting.

Day 3 | Waldviertel – Zwettl

Today, we head north to the “Waldviertel.” Here, in the “Mohndorf Armschlag,” you will learn everything important about poppy cultivation. Your journey will then take you to the brewing town of Zwettl. The locals are proud of their wonderful spot in the middle of Waldviertel. After a tour, you will have some free time. The return trip to the hotel takes you through the Kamptal, past Rosenburg.

Enjoy the flair of the city, stroll through the shopping streets, or explore some sights on your own. In the evening, you will end the day comfortably with a Heurigen menu at the hotel.

Day 5 | Wachau Tour

After breakfast, you will get to know the Wachau better on a tour. The landscape shaped by the Danube River and wine is impressive! The trip first takes you to the ruins of Aggstein. The approximately 150-meter-long castle was built at the beginning of the 12th century. After an exterior visit, you will continue over Rossatz to Göttweig. The Benedictine Abbey Göttweig, at an elevation of 422 m, dominates the eastern edge of the world-famous Danube Valley of Wachau and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2001. Around lunchtime, you will reach Krems. The city has a history of over 1,000 years. The old town is characterized by medieval alleys, buildings from the late Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque periods.
